UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS Mind Control (2013) CD

In 2013, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats released Mind Control and then went on tour with Black Sabbath, which is either the most logical career trajectory in heavy music or proof that the universe occasionally gets things exactly right.

The third album from the Cambridge psych-doom outfit is where the project fully locked in: thick, fuzzed-out riffs sitting under melodies that feel like they've been lifted from a 1970s horror soundtrack, vocals buried just enough in the mix to feel genuinely unsettling rather than theatrical. The Sabbath influence is obvious but the Roky Erickson and early Alice Cooper undertow is what makes it stick. Mind Control isn't doom metal wearing a costume, it's doom metal that genuinely believes in what it's doing, and you can hear it in every dragging, hypnotic groove.
