TRIVIUM Shogun CD (2008)
Trivium spent the first half of the 2000s getting called sellouts by people who couldn't name a Pantera record, then went and made Shogun anyway. Released in 2008, it's the album where Matt Heafy and co. stopped apologising for knowing how to play and leaned all the way into the epic, the progressive, and the punishing.
Shogun sits in that rare space where metalcore ambition meets actual thrash chops, drawing as much from Metallica's black album era as from the NWOAHM wave that spawned it. The title track alone clocks in at eleven minutes and earns every second. If you think heavy music peaked before you were born, this record has a riff for every one of your arguments.
CD, full length album. Released 27 September 2008. Origin: USA. Genre: metalcore, thrash metal, heavy metal.
