Trivium spent two decades being the band that metal gatekeepers loved to underestimate, and then they made this record and dared anyone to argue.

In the Court of the Dragon, released October 2021, is the Orlando four-piece at peak form, drawing from the same well as their landmark Shogun era but landing somewhere sharper and more focused. Matt Heafy's vocal range does real work here across metalcore aggression and clean melodic passages that don't feel like a commercial concession. The title track opens like a statement of intent and the album barely lets up. The production is enormous without losing the band's guts. If you came to Trivium through the thrash and heavy metal lineage, this is the record that rewards the long investment.
