While the genre's Scandinavian architects get most of the mythology, the Australian underground has been producing genuinely bleak, misanthropic work for decades, and Thrall sit comfortably in that lineage. Raw, atmospheric, and not interested in your approval, their music belongs in the same breath as Darkthrone's middle period and the murk of early Celtic Frost. Wearing this in Melbourne isn't cosplay, it's acknowledgement that the local dark metal scene has always punched well above its weight.
