Released in December 1979 and priced as a single LP out of spite toward the industry, it was The Clash doing what they always did, only louder, wider, and more right. Punk, reggae, rockabilly, jazz, proto-new wave, all of it colliding on a double album that somehow never loses the plot. Strummer and Jones were writing about nuclear anxiety, unemployment, and the slow collapse of the British dream, and it landed then the way it still lands now. The 180g heavyweight pressing means it sounds the way it deserves to, loud, full, and slightly confrontational on a good turntable.
