Forty years in and Testament are still writing thrash metal like they have something to prove. That's not a criticism. That's the whole point of them.

Para Bellum is their 2025 record, and the title, Latin for "prepare for war," is not what you'd call ambiguous. Chuck Billy's voice has only gotten more authoritative with age, Eric Peterson is still running the riff machine like it's 1989 and he just discovered Slayer, and the rhythm section hits with the kind of locked-in brutality that reminds you why Bay Area thrash carved its own lane distinct from the New York and LA scenes. This isn't a legacy act coasting. This is a band who know exactly what they are and are very comfortable being one of the best at it. The copper vinyl and gatefold presentation is the appropriate way to own something this heavy.
