TESTAMENT Brotherhood Of The Snake CD (2016)

Thirty-something years into their career and Testament were still writing riffs that made younger bands look like they'd given up. Brotherhood Of The Snake dropped in 2016 and hit harder than most of the thrash revival had any right to expect, a full-length that sounded genuinely furious rather than nostalgic.

Chuck Billy's vocals are a force of nature here, and the guitar work from Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick is the kind of thing that reminds you why Bay Area thrash metal mattered in the first place and why it still does. This isn't a legacy cash-in. It's a band who never really left proving they never needed to come back. Cuts like Stronghold and The Pale King sat comfortably alongside anything in their back catalogue, which is saying something when your back catalogue includes The Legacy and The New Order.
