When a Mystic Prophecy alumni links up with a vocalist who sounds like she was raised on storm clouds and black coffee, you don't get a polished metal product. You get Souldrinker.

Formed in Germany in 2013 by guitarist Markus Pohl and vocalist Iris Boanta, Souldrinker built War Is Coming on massive riffs, heavy-handed grooves, and a dark aesthetic that sits comfortably in the tradition of European heavy metal without simply rehashing it. Boanta's voice is the X-factor, carrying real power across a record that moves between punishing and melodic without losing its teeth. For fans of the genre who think most new metal plays it too safe, this one does not.
