Sweden keeps producing bands that make the rest of the progressive metal world look like they're still doing homework. Soen are one of the more interesting ones, a group that takes the moody atmospherics of Katatonia and wraps them around rhythmic complexity that earns comparisons to Tool without just being a Tool copy.

Undiscovered Lotus is a live set that captures the band in full flight, the kind of record that makes sense of why prog metal devotees have been circling this band for years. The arrangements breathe and shift, heavy where it counts, patient everywhere else. Pressed for Record Store Day, so this one was always going to be a limited run for people who were paying attention.
