Before Dopesmoker became the monolith it is, there was Holy Mountain, the record where Sleep figured out exactly how heavy a riff could get before it collapsed into its own gravitational field.

Released in 1992 and reissued in 2015, this is the album that cemented Sleep's place in the stoner/doom metal canon, a record that owes equal debt to Black Sabbath's Master of Reality and a very particular California haze. Al Cisneros, Matt Pike and Chris Hakius locked into a groove so deep it took years for the world to fully catch up. Tracks like Dragonaut and Aquarian still hit like a freight train made of amplifiers. This limited blue pressing, number 655 of 1000, is the kind of thing you actually keep.
