SISTERS OF MERCY Burley Park, Leeds 1984 Poster 113
Leeds, 1984. The drum machine is already running. Andrew Eldritch is somewhere in the dark, and the smoke machine budget has exceeded the band's rent.
The Sisters of Mercy at Burley Park in 1984 is the kind of gig that exists in legend more than documentation, right in the thick of the post-punk and gothic underground before any of it had a lifestyle brand attached. This is a document of a moment when the dark aesthetic was a genuine act of refusal, not a filter. Doktor Avalanche kept perfect time, as always. If your walls are already hosting Joy Division, Bauhaus or The Cure, this completes something.
