SHINING: Feberdrömmar (Del Ett) CD

Swedish black metal has never exactly been a comfort zone, and Shining have spent over two decades making sure it stays that way. Niklas Kvarforth's project has always been less "orthodox kvlt" and more psychological horror show, blurring black metal with jazz, prog and an unsettling theatrical menace that keeps you guessing right up until it makes you deeply uncomfortable.

Feberdrömmar (Del Ett), released in 2024, translates to Fever Dreams (Part One), which tells you exactly the kind of headspace you're entering. The guest vocal contributions from members of Peste Noire, Mayhem and Gorgoroth read like a who's-who of extreme metal's most deliberately difficult personalities, and the result sounds like it. This is black metal for people who find most black metal too polite, too predictable, or simply not strange enough.
