SEPULTURA The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart (2013)

Say what you want about post-Cavalera Sepultura, and people certainly do, but The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart is the album that finally shut some of those arguments down. Named after the Fritz Lang film Metropolis, it is bleak, mechanical, and genuinely angry in a way the band hadn't sounded in years.

Derrick Green sounds like he means it here, and the Dante Alighieri-quoting, dystopia-fixated concept record suits the groove and thrash metal foundation the band had been refining since the late nineties. This is not a nostalgia cash-in. It is a band with something to say about modern industrial alienation, and they say it with down-tuned aggression and purpose. Brazilian heavy music has always punched harder than it gets credit for, and this record is evidence.
