SECTARIAN BLOOM - New Spring (2021) Cassette

Some records sound like they were recorded in a room where the walls are closing in. New Spring is one of those records.

Sectarian Bloom hail from the US and operate somewhere in the no-man's-land between post-punk's cold architecture and punk's raw nerve endings. New Spring sits in that lineage of American bands who clearly grew up on Wire and Wipers but couldn't help letting something uglier bleed through. There's a tension here that doesn't resolve, which is exactly the point. If your record shelf has a dedicated section for dark, angular punk that unsettles more than it comforts, this belongs there.
