Before Fugazi, before Dischord became a mythology, there was Scream, playing DC hardcore with a tightness and aggression that most bands spent their whole careers chasing.

Still Screaming is their 1983 debut, and it holds up the way the best hardcore always does, by being completely uninterested in holding up. It's fast, it's pissed, it's got the kind of guitar work that reminds you why people fell headfirst into this scene in the first place. Pete Stahl is howling like the walls are closing in, and the rhythm section hits like a car door. Fun fact for the completists: Dave Grohl was in this band later. But that's almost beside the point when the record sounds like this.
