The Worst arrived in 1996 as the band's final album, and the title is either the most self-aware joke in extreme metal or a genuine provocation, depending on your relationship with Brazilian underground extremity. It's rawer, stranger, and more chaotic than almost anything in the canon. If you traced a line from Motörhead through early Sepultura and out the other side into something genuinely unhinged, you'd land somewhere near this record. Sarcofago's influence runs deep through death metal, black metal, and the whole dark aesthetic underground, and The Worst is proof the band never once tried to sand down its edges.
