SABATON Carolus Rex Patch
Power metal has a reputation problem among people who've never actually listened to it at volume, and Sabaton are the band most likely to convert a skeptic. Carolus Rex is their 2012 concept album about the Swedish Empire and Charles XII, sung partly in Swedish, and it is enormously, defiantly, correctly over the top.
Sabaton occupy a lane of their own in the metal world: military history lectures set to twin-guitar gallop and stadium choruses, with a fanbase that can tell you the casualty figures at Poltava as readily as they can recite the lyrics. The Carolus Rex artwork on this patch, imperial and dramatic, looks exactly as good on a jacket as it does on the album cover. Power metal, grunge aesthetics, gothic streetwear, it doesn't matter, a good patch earns its place anywhere.
