2112 is the record Rush made when their label told them to write something more commercial. They responded with a twenty-minute sci-fi concept suite about a man who discovers a guitar in a dystopian future and gets crushed by the state for it. Correct response.

The Starman, that naked red figure inside the pentagram, is one of prog rock's great icons. It launched on the 2112 cover in 1976 and it's been a patch, a tattoo, and a poster ever since. It's anti-authoritarian mythology dressed up as hard rock, which is exactly the kind of thing that belongs in the ALT CVLT orbit. If you've got a copy of the record and some wall space, this is the obvious move. Metal, progressive rock, alternative and dark aesthetic all in one clean image.
