Released in 1983, Rudimentary Peni's debut album sits in a category almost entirely its own. Nick Blinko's unhinged artwork, the lurching tempo changes, lyrics that swing between political fury and genuine psychological dread, it's not a comfortable listen and it was never meant to be. This is the record that connects Crass's DIY ethics to the gothic underground without asking permission from either camp. Bands have spent forty years trying to sound this singular. This remastered reissue is the cleanest it's ever sounded, which still means wonderfully corroded.
