Return of the Living Dead - Tarman Mask

Brains. Not shambling, not moaning, not looking for survivors. Just brains, with a specificity that made every other zombie feel underprepared. Tarman set the bar in 1985 and nothing has cleared it since.

This mask was sculpted by Justin Mabry, VP of Art Direction at Trick or Treat Studios, working from William Stout's original production artwork and cross-referencing Tarman as he actually appeared on screen. That dual-source approach matters, because Tarman is one of those creatures where the details are the whole point, the melted skin, the exposed skull, the sense that something used to be a person and now very much isn't. It's the kind of piece that earns its place in any serious horror collection alongside the film's legacy as a cornerstone of punk-adjacent, irreverent, genuinely grotesque genre cinema. Return of the Living Dead gave us a zombie movie that understood the joke without softening the horror, and Tarman was the punchline with teeth.
