Twenty-five years deep and Rancid still sound like they have something to prove, which is exactly why they matter.

Trouble Maker landed in 2017 as the band's eighth studio album and answered a simple question: can a band that defined 90s streetpunk stay relevant without softening up? Largely, yes. Armstrong and Freeman are still trading riffs like a two-headed argument, and the record pulls from the full Rancid playbook, ska-punk, hardcore, melodic punk, East Bay grit. It's not And Out Come the Wolves, but nothing is, and holding that against it gets boring. This is a band that genuinely loves the music they make, and that comes through.
