The year was 1999, the venue was Mexico City's Palacio de los Deportes, and Rage Against the Machine played to a crowd that probably felt the show in their bones for a week afterwards. Some gigs are historical events. This was one of them.

The Battle of Mexico City documents that show in full, and this vinyl debut presses the whole thing onto red and green coloured vinyl with a white label, a direct nod to the Mexican flag and to the Latin American fanbase that has always understood exactly what this band was on about. RATM's politics were never abstract, and neither is this release. It's a live record that functions as a time capsule of punk-inflected, hip-hop-heavy, alternative metal fury at its peak, before the first breakup, before the reunion, right in the middle of everything.
