When John Lydon dissolved the Sex Pistols and started Public Image Ltd., half the punk world felt betrayed. The other half realised he'd just blown the door open to something far more interesting.

PIL turned post-punk into an art form, pulling in dub, krautrock, and industrial noise before most people had words for any of it. Metal Box is still one of the strangest and most influential records to come out of the late seventies, and the PIL logo, blocky and confrontational, has stayed iconic through every era of alternative and gothic fashion since. This round woven patch is the kind of thing that belongs on a denim jacket that also has Wire, Gang of Four, and a handful of things people will ask you about. Sew it on and mean it.
