Portland's Poison Idea never really got the mainstream obituary they deserved, which is fine, because they would have hated it. Fat, loud, confrontational, and completely indifferent to your comfort, they were the Pacific Northwest's answer to a question nobody polite was asking.

Originally released in 1992 and reissued in 2012, Darby Crash Rides Again sits in the band's imperial era, where Jerry A. was simultaneously falling apart and writing some of the most unhinged hardcore punk of his generation. The title alone tells you everything, a tribute to the Germs frontman that doubles as a self-description. This is American punk at its most bruised and self-aware, somewhere between nihilism and dark comedy. If your collection runs through the Boston and DC scenes but you've never given the West Coast ugliness its due, this is the gap to fill.
