The Peacock Swallowtail, Papilio blumei, is native to Sulawesi and it does not do anything quietly. The wings are black and iridescent green, covered in microscopic structures that shift between green, blue, and gold depending on the angle and the light. It is structural colour, physics doing the work that pigment can't. A framed specimen is simultaneously a natural history object, a piece of dark art, and proof that the horror and the beautiful were never actually separate categories.
