PANZERCHRIST Regiment Ragnarok (2011) CD

Denmark doesn't get enough credit for producing some of the most methodical, joyless, and genuinely excellent death metal on the planet. Panzerchrist have been proving this since the nineties, and Regiment Ragnarok is one of their better arguments.

Released in 2011, this sits comfortably in the blackened death metal zone where military precision meets apocalyptic atmosphere. There's a grinding, mechanical quality to Panzerchrist's approach that separates them from the more chaotic end of the genre, closer to Zyklon's industrial-inflected brutality than anything that prioritises atmosphere over impact. The production is cold, the riffs are relentless, and the whole thing sounds like it was recorded specifically to soundtrack the end of something. If your tastes run dark and your tolerance for melody is low, this delivers without apology.
