Overkill have been doing this longer than most of their fans have been alive, and they still sound like they're settling a grudge. The Grinding Wheel arrived in 2017 as their nineteenth studio album, which is either insane or deeply admirable, probably both.

Bobby Blitz remains one of thrash metal's most distinctive frontmen, all coiled aggression and Jersey attitude, and this record leans hard into the groove-heavy chug that's defined their post-2000s run. It's not a reinvention. It's Overkill being Overkill with absolute conviction, which is exactly what you want. Cuts like Our Finest Hour and the title track sit comfortably alongside their catalogue without feeling like retreads. For anyone who thinks thrash died in 1993, this is a corrective.
