Smash came out in 1994 and promptly became the best-selling independent album of all time. Not bad for a bunch of kids from Orange County who wanted to write punk songs with actual hooks.

The Offspring occupied a specific lane in the mid-nineties where punk rock, alternative, and just enough pop sensibility collided at high speed. Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, Gotta Get Away, the record barely let up.
