NECROT: Mortal CD

Oakland's Necrot play death metal like they mean it personally. Mortal, their 2020 sophomore full-length, is forty minutes of grinding, doomy old-school death metal that sounds like it was recorded in a crypt and engineered by people who think melody is something you earn rather than assume.

Where their debut Blood Offerings announced them as the real thing, Mortal is where they got comfortable being genuinely relentless. There's a Autopsy-via-Bolt Thrower quality to the riffwork, the kind of death metal that has weight and intention rather than just speed. If your CD shelf has a gap between your Incantation and your Morbid Angel, Necrot fills it and fills it well. This is dark aesthetic listening for people who take it seriously.
