Birmingham's finest have been at this since 1981 and they have never, not once, gone soft. Time Waits for No Slave is their fifteenth studio album and it arrives with the kind of controlled fury that most bands spend their entire career trying to manufacture.

Released in 2009 on Century Media, this record finds Napalm Death doing what they do better than anyone alive: grindcore that thinks. There's death metal weight here, some mid-paced groove that hits harder for the contrast, and Barney Greenway's vocals sitting somewhere between a sermon and a threat. Lyrically it's the same territory they've always claimed, anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, anti-bullshit, but tighter and more focused than some of their earlier nineties output. For a band often cited as founding the entire grindcore genre, this late-period record is a reminder that longevity and relevance are not mutually exclusive. Loud, fast, righteous.
