MORTIFICATION Break The Curse 1990 (2001) CD
Before Christian metal became a genre unto itself, Mortification were out of Melbourne making death and thrash records that held up on pure sonic merit, no asterisk required. Break the Curse, originally from 1990 and reissued in 2001, is where it started: raw Australian extreme metal with enough aggression to earn its place next to anything the scene was producing at the time.
The Australian extreme metal underground of that era was genuinely world-class, and Mortification were part of the same circuit as Mortal Sin, Armoured Angel, and Abramelin, bands that never got their international due but built something real regardless. This record is a document of that moment, Melbourne metal history pressed to CD, and it hits harder than a lot of what was coming out of the Northern Hemisphere in the same period.
