MESHUGGAH Violent Sleep of Reason Back Patch

There are heavy bands, and then there is Meshuggah, a Swedish outfit who operate in a rhythm dimension most drummers cannot locate on a map. Violent Sleep of Reason, their 2016 bruiser, was recorded almost entirely live, which says everything about what these five people are capable of.

The album art for this one leans into the mechanical dread the band have always trafficked in, all industrial grey and hostile geometry. As a back patch it lands exactly right on a denim vest or a black jacket, the kind of thing that signals you've done the listening homework.
