There are bands, and then there is Mayhem, the Norwegian black metal outfit whose biography reads like a horror novel someone accidentally published as fact. Dead, Euronymous, the church burnings, the recordings that sounded like they were captured inside a collapsing building, all of it became the mythology that every subsequent wave of black metal, industrial, and dark alternative music either built on or reacted against. This wall flag documents the invasion, which is historically appropriate because polite appearances were never really on the agenda. Hang it, drape it, wrap yourself in it, use it as a tablecloth at the most unsettling dinner party your neighbours have ever witnessed through a window.
