Mayhem's debut full-length was recorded under circumstances that have passed into infamy, and the music matches the weight of that history, cold, cavernous, and utterly uncompromising. Euronymous's guitar work, Dead's vocals captured on tape before everything collapsed, Hellhammer holding the whole thing together from behind the kit. Wearing this patch is not a casual decision. It is a declaration of allegiance to the rawer, darker, more confrontational end of the dark aesthetic, the part of metal that never softened and never apologised for it.
