Before the Wachowskis told us the world was a simulation, they told us exactly what it should sound like. The Matrix soundtracks are a document of a specific cultural moment, that late-90s collision of industrial aggression, drum and bass paranoia, and electronic nihilism that made every suburban kid feel like they were finally being told the truth.

This 2-LP set pulls from the films' soundtracks, which remain some of the most culturally loaded compilations of the era. Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Rage Against the Machine, Prodigy, Juno Reactor rubbing shoulders with Don Davis's orchestral dread. It's a gothic, industrial, and metal fever dream that aged better than anyone expected. The black and red "Squiddy" coloured vinyl is appropriately menacing, and the gatefold package is loaded with production stills from the original film. Limited to 420 copies, so Morpheus was right about the last chance thing.
