MANOWAR - Kings of Metal VINYL

There is a version of 1988 where Manowar released Kings of Metal and everyone took them seriously immediately. That version of history is better than ours. The album is a masterclass in heavy metal maximalism, anthemic, absurd, completely committed, and genuinely one of the genre's high watermarks whether the cool kids admit it or not.

"Hail and Kill" alone justifies the existence of distortion as a concept. "The Crown and the Ring" is the kind of power ballad that makes you want to pledge allegiance to something. Manowar understood that metal is mythology, and they built their own with more sincerity than most bands manage in an entire career. This is required listening for anyone serious about the dark, heavy end of the alternative music spectrum.
