Lamprima Adolphinae Stag Beetle Framed Specimen
Beautifully coloured stag beetle. Members of this species vary widely in coloration; individuals can be found in green, gold, brown, and blue, and many colors in between. Despite their relatively menacing appearance they feed mostly on tree sap and rotting fruit. Males sport large mandibles which are used in battle with other males over mates, territory, and food. They are often kept as pets and breed easily in captivity. The adult beetles will eat beetle jelly and occasionally sweet fruit like banana melon and plum while the larvae has a completely different diet they require soft moist rotten wood.
