1987 was a different kind of war. Thrash metal had teeth, and Kreator sharpened theirs on Terrible Certainty, the record that cemented the Essen trio as the most vicious thing coming out of Germany since the country invented the concept of unhinged speed. This wasn't Bay Area polish. This was Teutonic aggression with something to prove.

Third album in, and Kreator had already outpaced most of their peers, landing somewhere between Slayer's brutality and a specifically European darkness that the Americans never quite nailed. Terrible Certainty sits in that prime window before thrash started eating itself, every track a controlled demolition. This 2017 reissue presses it onto 180 gram vinyl across two discs and throws in live material that reminds you these songs were always built for rooms that smelled like sweat and feedback.
