KORN Life is Peachy CD (1996)

The difficult second album curse is a myth, and Korn proved it by making something weirder and more feral than their debut. Life is Peachy landed in 1996 and immediately made itself at home in the kind of teenage bedroom that had too many posters and not enough ventilation.

Where the self-titled debut introduced the world to Bakersfield's most unsettling export, Life is Peachy leaned further into the dysfunction. Jonathan Davis screaming phonetically in Twist, the lurching groove of Chi, the whole album sitting at that uncomfortable intersection of hip-hop, metal and genuine psychological distress that nu-metal never quite replicated again. Raw, confrontational, and still sounds like it was recorded in a parking garage at 2am, which is a compliment.
