KISS: Paul Stanley Vinyl LP (Picture Disc)

Before the solo albums were a punchline, they were a genuine gamble, four KISS members dropping records on the same day in 1978 while the band was at peak arena-rock absurdity. Paul Stanley's was the one that actually rocked.

Where Ace went cosmic and Peter went soft, the Starchild leaned hard into his wheelhouse, big hooks, bigger choruses, and that particular strain of late-70s hard rock that lived in the space between glam swagger and FM radio gold. It's not reinventing anything, it's not trying to. It's Paul Stanley doing Paul Stanley at full volume, and the picture disc pressing means you get to watch his face spin at 33rpm while it happens, which is either deeply weird or deeply correct depending on your relationship with KISS mythology.
