The name alone should tell you what kind of band Khold are. Norwegians, obviously. No one else commits to that level of deadpan menace with quite so much conviction.

Formed from the wreckage of Tulus, Khold arrived in 2001 with Masterpiss of Pain and immediately carved out a niche in the Norwegian black metal underground that was distinctly their own. Where their peers were either going symphonic or retreating into bedroom minimalism, Khold went mid-paced, grooved, and abrasive, closer in spirit to early Darkthrone or Gehenna than to the more theatrical end of the scene. The riffs are blunt instruments. The atmosphere is miserable in the best possible way. This is Norwegian dark metal that doesn't care if you find it accessible, which paradoxically makes it more interesting than a lot of records trying harder to impress.
