Polish black metal has always operated on its own terms, and Iuvenes are a perfect example of why. Part of the same late-nineties wave that produced Graveland and Hellveto, they built something atmospheric and massive out of cold synths, folk sensibility, and black metal severity.

Released in 2005, Towards Sources of Honour and Pride sits deep in the dark ambient and Viking black metal tradition, the kind of record that sounds like it was recorded in a forest that hasn't seen sunlight in three months. If Bathory's Hammerheart era spoke to you, or you've worn out your Nachfalke and Norden records, this belongs in the collection. Poland's underground has been putting out work this committed for decades and it still doesn't get the credit it deserves.
