IRON MAIDEN: Piece of Mind Vinyl LP

There's a version of 1983 where Iron Maiden didn't record Piece of Mind and everything that followed is worse. Fortunately, that timeline doesn't exist. This is the album that locked in the classic Maiden lineup, the one with Nicko McBrain behind the kit, and it sounds like a band that knew exactly what they were doing and were furious about it in the best possible way.

"The Trooper," "Revelations," "Die With Your Boots On," four sides of vinyl that redefined what heavy metal could be ambitious about. Steve Harris's bass is a freight train. Bruce Dickinson sounds like he's performing for the back row of a stadium even when he's singing about Coleridge. The 2024 remaster brings the whole thing forward without stripping any of the era's grit, which is exactly what a remaster should do and rarely does. This one belongs in any serious dark aesthetic, metal or alternative vinyl collection.
