Australian black metal has always had its own particular darkness to it, something in the soil down here that breeds a different kind of ugly.

Hellspawn came out of that tradition, and Lords of Eternity is the document of a local scene working through its own extremity without looking over its shoulder at what Norway was doing. Australian black metal from 2001 is a specific artefact, the underground was genuinely underground, distribution was patchy, and records like this one circulated through mail order and tape trading networks before most people had broadband. Finding a copy now is the kind of thing that makes you feel like you actually did the work. This is one of those records.
