GUNS N' ROSES Use Your Illusion I DVD (1992)
By 1992 Guns N' Roses had gone from Sunset Strip degenerates to the kind of band that needed its own stage the size of a suburb. Tokyo caught them right in the eye of the storm, still dangerous, still technically falling apart, still somehow the most compelling thing in rock music.
Use Your Illusion I pulls from the first record's energy, Right Next Door to Hell, Live and Let Die, Civil War, the set leaning into the version of GNR that wanted to prove they weren't just Appetite For Destruction's house band. Watching this alongside volume two gives you the full picture of a tour that defined the last gasp of stadium hard rock before Nevermind rewrote the rulebook. If you care about where punk attitude ended up in the hands of people who genuinely knew how to play, this is required viewing.
DVD. Live recorded Tokyo, Japan, 1992. USA release.
