GEHENNA Murder CD (2000)

By the time Gehenna dropped Murder in 2000, the Norwegian black metal scene had already eaten itself alive and spat out something uglier, and Gehenna were right there for it.

Starting out as orthodox second-wave black metal, Gehenna spent the late nineties dragging their sound toward something more industrial, more death-soaked, more wrong. Murder is the end point of that evolution, cold and mechanical where their early work was atmospheric, with a production style that feels genuinely hostile. It's not Seen Through the Veils of Darkness and it was never meant to be. If you came in through the Dimmu Borgir or Emperor end of Norwegian black metal and you're ready to go somewhere darker and less pretty, this is a logical next step. A slab of European extremity worth having in the collection.
