Gauze have been operating out of Tokyo since 1981, releasing records almost entirely on their own terms, never touring internationally, never courting a Western audience, and somehow becoming one of the most influential hardcore bands on the planet anyway. That's a specific kind of power.

Ride The Fidgety Rhythm, originally released in 2007, is classic late-period Gauze, which is to say it's faster than it has any right to be, the vocals are a controlled riot, and the production has that raw, almost violent clarity that Japanese hardcore does better than almost anyone. This pressing in red vinyl is a collector's item for anyone deep in the punk and alternative underground. If your record shelf has His Hero Is Gone next to Framtid, this belongs between them.
