FUDGE TUNNEL: The Complicated Futility Of Ignorance Cassette

Fudge Tunnel were one of the genuinely ugly propositions to crawl out of the Nottingham underground in the early nineties, and ugly is meant entirely as a compliment. Alex Newport and crew built their sound out of sludge, noise, and a hostility toward comfort that most of their contemporaries were too busy chasing grunge radio play to attempt.

The Complicated Futility of Ignorance, their 1994 swan song, is the record where they pushed everything into the red and left it there. It arrived just as the band were dissolving, which gives it a particular kind of reckless clarity. The riffs are slow, heavy, and corroded. The production sounds like it was recorded inside a collapsing building. In the best possible way. That this is hitting cassette in 2024 makes complete sense, because the format suits the grime.
