Brazil has a long and gloriously violent history with death metal, from the Cogumelo Records chaos of the late 80s through to the current wave of cavernous doom-death that sounds like it was exhumed rather than recorded. Fossilization sit squarely in that second tradition.

He Whose Name Was Long Forgotten is a mini album that earns the doom half of its genre tag without ever losing the rot. There's a suffocating quality here, the kind of slow-crush heaviness that owes more to diSEMBOWELMENT and Winter than anything with blast beats, but filtered through a distinctly South American grime. It doesn't rush. It doesn't need to. Death/doom at its most sepulchral is about dread, and this cassette has it in full.
