FEIST The Reminder (2007) CD

2007 was a weird moment, when indie pop briefly made it okay to cry in a coffee shop and mean it. Leslie Feist had already been floating around the Toronto scene, playing with Broken Social Scene, building something quietly enormous, and The Reminder is where it all crystallised.

This is the album that contains "1234", yes, but don't let that iPod ad context fool you. The Reminder is a genuinely strange and beautiful record, full of longing and wit and Feist's voice doing things that shouldn't work on paper but absolutely do. Chamber pop, folk, jazz shadows, bedroom intimacy stretched across an orchestral canvas. It holds up better than most things from that era.
